With Corel Professional Photos, photographs are no longer just a static visual medium. Each disc includes applications that you can use to work with the Photo CD images.

1. Introduction
==============
CorelMOSAIC organizes your images according to their logical relationships. For example, you could create a "library" of Photo CD images that you frequently use in business presentations. Regardless of the drive and folder in which images are actually stored, you can view them as a set of related images within the library.
A library displays representations of its images, called thumbnails, which are small bitmapped versions of the original images. For each thumbnail, a library stores the location of the image that the thumbnail represents, along with any keywords and notes that you define to help you identify an image.
In addition to Photo CD images, CorelMOSAIC allows you to use PICT, GIF, and TIFF graphics formats, QuickTime movies, fonts, and so on. This standalone version of CorelMOSAIC doesn't allow you to use CorelDRAW files.
You can add files to a CorelMOSAIC library by the 'drag and drop' process. Select a number of image files from the Finder and then drag them to the CorelMOSAIC icon. The files are added to a new library or to the existing front most library window if one is open.
Some applications support previews or thumbnails of a file within itself. CorelMOSAIC supports the standard Quicktime 'pnot' preview headers used by many applications. Graphics files created by applications that don't support these headers can be used in CorelMOSAIC. The previews for these files are based on the actual image data.
CorelMOSAIC also supports keywords and notes for each file. Keywords let you specify search criteria for image files by associating the images with words you supply. You might, for example, have a library that contains pictures of animals and cars. You could attach the keyword 'animal' to all the animal files and the keyword 'car' to all the car files. Later, you can choose to select groups of pictures by keywords.
Notes let you describe pictures. Both keywords and notes are supported by the Quicktime 'pnot' format.
You can update files created by applications on your system. For example, if you add keywords to a file using CorelMOSAIC, you can update the original file using menu commands or when you close the Library document.
Similarly, if you add keywords to the original file, you can update the CorelMOSAIC library. This feature is particularly useful, for example, if all image files are located on a central server and modified by many users.
By default, the library is updated when you open it. You can also update a library when any command from the Library menu is selected.
You access files that you've compressed within a library. You can also change the format of files stored by reference using the export features.
To export files
1. Select one or more files in your library.
2. Select the Export command from the File menu.
3. Choose the export options you want applied.
4. Choose the OK button.
To export non Photo CD files to PICT, you must have given CorelMOSAIC enough memory to hold the entire file.
CorelMOSAIC has a limit of about 1000 files per library. As you approach this limit, performance may suffer.
You may change the size and orientation of the thumbnails you see in the library window by choosing "CorelMOSAIC Preferences" from the Apple menu.
If CorelMOSAIC can't create a preview or can't understand an image file format, the preview for the file is shown as a yellow diamond with an exclamation mark inside.
Additional file information may be obtained using the Get Info command from the library. If the library item is a Quicktime movie, you can play it (in minature) in the File Information dialog.
You may launch the program that created a file by double-clicking on the file. If CorelMOSAIC can find the application, it launches it with the given file.
2. Installation Requirements
==========================
CorelMOSAIC requires a Macintosh with a 68020 or higher processor. The system must be running System 7.0.1 or 7.1.0.
If your running Systme 7.1.0, you must install Quicktime to use the CorelMOSAIC conversion filters.
3. Before You Begin
==================
Before trying to use the Corel Professional Photos, you should be familiar with how to use your Macintosh. For example, you must know how to locate folders and files on a mounted CD-ROM disc.
4. How To Locate The Photo CD Images
===================================
The Corel Professional Photos applications run on your hard drive and access images from the disc in your CD-ROM drive. The Corel Professional Photos images are located in the COREL directory on the Professional Photos disc. These images require significant amounts of hard disk space. Don't try to copy these images to your hard drive.
5. How To Install CorelMOSAIC
===========================
To install CorelMOSAIC
1. Insert the Corel Professional Photos disc into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Open the Mac Mosaic folder on the disc.
3. Drag the contents of this folder to your hard drive.
6. Starting CorelMOSAIC
======================
After you've installed CorelMOSAIC, the hard drive folder includes an application icon. Each time you want to use the screen saver, you must start the application using this icon.
7. Installing Conversion Filters
============================
CorelMOSAIC includes some conversion filters that you may want to add to your system. These filters aren't required to use CorelMOSAIC, but may allow you to use a wider variety of graphics formats.
To install the conversion filters
1. Drag the contents of the CorelMOSAIC Extensions folder to your System folder.
2. Click the OK button.
3. Restart the Macintosh.
8. About The Corel Professional Photos Disc Format
===============================================
The Corel Professional Photos discs include both Kodak Photo CD images and Corel applications. Therefore, these discs aren't compatible with Kodak Photo CD players. In addition, the format of these discs allows you to access their images and applications in CD-ROM drives that aren't Kodak compliant.
9. For Adobe PhotoShop Users Only
===============================
If you import Photo CD images into PhotoShop, you must change the default resolution to 300 dots per inch for the best image quality.
10. Miscellaneous Notes
=====================
If you've installed previous versions of the CorelConverter Extensions, you should replace them with the later versions supplied on the Installation Disk.
If you have Stuffit(TM), and the Suffit(TM) Engine is already located in your Extensions folder, then you don't need to add the Minimal Suffit(TM) Engine found in the CorelMOSAIC! Extensions folder.
If you use the Norton/Symantec Directory Assistance extension or other similar software, you should turn it off. Currently, a possible conflict exists between CorelMOSAIC and this type of software.
The TIFF importer requires that your system has enough memory to hold the entire TIFF file in memory when trying to create a thumbnail. If you create thumbnails for large TIFF files, increase the memory partition size for CorelMOSAIC by using the Finder's Get Info command. Large TIFF files are created when exporting Photo CD files at resolutions greater than 1024 x 768.
The EPS/AI importer requires that Adobe Type Manager is installed for files that include text. If ATM isn't installed, the text won't appear in the file preview.
Compressing files requires significant amounts of memory. Don't try to compress a Quicktime movie or a Photo CD file into a library. These files are already compressed. As well, unless the CorelMOSAIC parition is greater than 10 MB, it's unlikely that the files will be added to the library.

D. TERM: This License shall continue for as long as you use the Product. However, it will terminate if you fail to comply with any of its term or conditions. You agree, upon termination, to destroy all copies of the Product. The Limitations of Warranties and Liability set out below shall continue in force even after any termination.
E. WARRANTY: We warrant that the storage media in this Product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for 90 days from the date you acquire it. If such a defect occurs, return it to us at the address below and we will replace it free. This remedy is your exclusive remedy for breach of this warranty. It gives you certain rights and you may have other legislated rights which vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
F. LIMITATION OF WARRANTIES AND LIABILITY: Except for the express warranty above, the Product is provided on an "as is" basis, without any other warranties, or conditions, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantable quality, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, or those arising by law, statute, usage of trade or course of dealing. The entire risk as to the results and performance of the Product is assumed by you. The limitations in this section shall apply whether or not the alleged breach or default is a breach of a fundamental condition or term, or a fundamental breach. Some states/countries do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages so the above limitation may not apply to you.
G. RESTRICTED RIGHTS: If this Product is acquired by or for the U.S. Government then it is provided with Restricted Rights. Use, duplication, or disclosure by the U.S. Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c)(1)(ii) of The Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at ` 252.227-7013, or subparagraphs (c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial Computer Software - Restricted Rights at 48 CFR 52.227-19, or clause 18-52.227-86(d) of the NASA Supplement to the FAR, as applicable. H. GENERAL: This License is the entire agreement between us, supersedes any other agreement or discussions, oral or written and may not be changed except by a written signed agreement. This License shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. If any provision of this License is declared by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, such provision shall be severed from the License and the other provisions shall remain in full force and effect. The parties have requested that this Agreement and all documents contemplated hereby be drawn up in English.
